The article examines the outcomes of implementing a literary translation project carried out by the members of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation. The aim of the article is to analyze the specific features of project-based activity in the field of translation with a view to enhancing the professional competencies of the teaching staff. The material for the study was a literary translation of the biographical work by the German writer Marion Tauschwitz, “Selma Merbaum. Ich hatte keine Zeit gehabt zu Ende zu schreiben. Biografie und Gedichte” (2023).
The stages of the project preparation and implementation are identified, and the translation competencies fostered through participation in the project are described in detail, including professional, research, intercultural, and media competencies, as well as the selection of practical materials for classroom use with students. The research methods include observation of interaction, reflective surveys, analysis of the effectiveness of collaboration aimed at jointly solving translation problems and editing the translated literary work.
The findings demonstrate that the implementation of a collaborative translation project among colleagues contributes to increased motivation, collective problem-solving. The project participants expanded their knowledge of translation resources, digital tools, search engines, became familiar with the benefits of participation in translation communities, communication with experts.
Overall, this not only enhances the professional level of the teaching staff and improves their theoretical and practical courses in translation studies, but also enables a more conscious and purposeful organization of students’ translation practice, while fostering a positive team atmosphere and strengthening collegial spirit.
