The article explores the use of podcasts in implementing a differentiated approach to developing listening comprehension skills in German as a second foreign language at the tertiary level. The study employs an experimental method involving differentiated tasks based on authentic audio materials.
The paper analyzes instructional approaches and techniques that support the integration of podcasts into the teaching process while taking into account the individual learning needs and characteristics of students. It provides examples of tasks aimed at improving the comprehension of authentic German speech, expanding learners’ lexical repertoire, and developing interpretive listening strategies. Particular attention is paid to motivational and cognitive factors that enhance the quality of second foreign language acquisition.
The results of the trial instruction indicate that the systematic use of podcasts accompanied by varied tasks significantly improves students’ listening competence, increases their motivation to learn, and fosters independent work with authentic content. Furthermore, this approach contributes to the development of intercultural awareness, which is a crucial component of modern professional training.
Thus, the integration of podcasts into the foreign language learning process allows for the effective implementation of differentiation principles, supports personalized learning, and promotes the development of key foreign language competence—namely, the ability to listen to and understand authentic spoken language.
