Editorial Foreword

It is with great pleasure that we present the new Journal of International and European Law of the Department of International Law and Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. The Journal has been established to bring together Ukrainian and international scholars, practitioners, and all those interested in contemporary challenges and trends within this dynamic and evolving field. At a time when the international community is confronted with new forms of threats, conflicts, and transformations, international legal thought must remain flexible, rigorous, and constructive.

This inaugural issue is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. The Journal forms part of the celebration of this significant milestone in the history of one of the oldest and most distinguished higher education institutions in Ukraine. It aims to unite the academic community in addressing pressing issues of modern international legal scholarship, to promote interdisciplinary research, and to strengthen international academic cooperation. Particular attention is devoted to contemporary challenges facing international law, innovative approaches to its renewal and development, and the preservation of the scholarly traditions of international law schools that have evolved over one and a half centuries of our University’s existence.

The purpose of the Journal is to serve as an active and innovative platform for the free exchange of scholarly ideas, analytical research, and critical reflections within the context of the development of European law in times of rapid change. We seek to address the most pressing issues of public international law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, environmental law, private international law, European Union law, and human rights law, giving voice both to established experts and to emerging scholars.

We believe that the research, ideas, and perspectives published in our Journal will contribute to strengthening understanding and confidence in the effectiveness and enduring force of international law as a guarantor of a just modern world.

We sincerely thank you for joining us at the beginning of this ambitious project and invite you to collaborate, engage in discussion, and participate in the shared search for answers to complex questions of international law.
