Policy and plagiarism prevention

The Editorial Board of the journal Germanic Philology. Journal of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as the use of someone else's ideas, texts, research results, or images without proper attribution to the author and source, as well as self-plagiarism (duplication of one's own previously published work).

Manuscript Verification Procedure:

  1. Initial Screening: All manuscripts submitted to the editorial office undergo mandatory plagiarism checks using specialized software (e.g., StrikePlagiarism, Unicheck, Turnitin, or other university-recommended systems).

  2. Similarity Report Analysis: The editorial team analyzes the similarity report. The minimum uniqueness threshold is set at 80–85% (accounting for correct citations and the specifics of philological research, such as literary quotations).

  3. Expert Assessment: If the system detects a significant percentage of matches, a technical editor or board member conducts a detailed analysis to determine whether these matches constitute improper borrowing, common terminology, or correctly formatted citations.

  4. Editorial Decision:

    • In case of minor technical citation errors, the article is returned to the author for revision.

    • If substantial plagiarism (exceeding 20–25% without proper attribution) or data falsification is detected, the manuscript is rejected without the right of resubmission, and the author is notified of the ethical violation.
