AI Policy
The editorial policy of the journal Germanic Philology. Journal of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is founded on the principles of academic accountability, transparency, and integrity. This framework aligns with the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the European Commission’s guidelines for the reliable and ethical application of AI in research.
The Editorial Board acknowledges the use of AI tools solely as auxiliary instruments, provided that the author maintains full intellectual control over the work. Permissible use includes linguistic and stylistic editing, technical assistance in structuring the manuscript, the processing of large datasets, and the creation of graphical materials in strict compliance with copyright and intellectual property laws.
Prohibited use includes the generation of research results, findings, or conclusions without the actual conduct of scholarly work, as well as the creation of the primary substance of the article without a substantial intellectual contribution from the author. AI systems do not meet the criteria for authorship—specifically regarding the ability to take legal and ethical responsibility for the research—and therefore cannot be listed as co-authors. Concealing the use of AI in instances where it significantly influences the content or form of the scholarly work is considered a violation of academic integrity.
The author bears sole personal responsibility for the content, accuracy, originality, and scientific validity of the submitted material, regardless of the digital tools employed. If AI technologies are used, authors are obligated to ensure full transparency by disclosing this information within the text (e.g., in the "Methodology" or "Acknowledgements" sections). The Editorial Board reserves the right to perform additional screening for the unethical use of AI and to implement corrective measures as provided by the journal’s publication ethics policy.
