In the process of intercultural communication it is possible to trace the differences in the behavior of representatives of different peoples. Repeated patterns of behavior have led to the assumption that there is a "national character", that is, the mentality of people. The question of the "national character" of a particular nation arises at the intersection of such fields of knowledge as cultural studies, psychology and philology. In the framework of philological research, the specificity of national consciousness, as well as stereotypes of national behavior, is dealt with linguocultural studies. In the linguocultural approach, the word acts as a carrier of culture and a unit of self-perception of people, and people's mentality is always expressed in units of language.
Considering the numerous scientific researches, it seems urgent to integrate the results of authoritative research into a unified system of German mentality which is transformed as a result of social development, the emergence of new social phenomena and the enrichment of the language with new concepts. On the basis of complex researches we will try to distinguish the key concepts for the German mentality, illustrating them with German phraseology.
