The article explores the concept of "military vocabulary," which can be described as specialized linguistic terminology used in a military context. This vocabulary covers a wide range of terms and expressions related to tactical and strategic aspects of military affairs, armaments, military operations, organization of military units, and other important military processes and aspects. A detailed study of this vocabulary helps to understand and analyze military activities and their components. In the course of the study various military lexemes and their translation methods were thoroughly studied. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the most common translation strategies used in English-language news coverage of events in Ukraine. The study showed that adaptive transcoding and transcription are the most common transformations in the translation of military terminology. The use of these transformations helps to reproduce proper names and spellings of certain terms. In other cases, permutation and modulation are used to build a sentence logically or to clarify ambiguous expressions in a sentence.
The results of the study indicate the importance of further research related to the translation of military lexis in the context of English-language online news. The research conducted may improve the understanding of events taking place in the military context among audiences who speak different languages.
