Abstract

This article examines the ethnocultural potential of the Chernivtsi region through the lens of a perception-geographical approach, which enables a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between cultural practices, mental images of the territory, and the spatial identity of the population. It is determined that the ethnocultural space of the region has a multiethnic character, shaped by the historical interaction of Ukrainian, Romanian, Moldovan, Jewish, Polish, and German ethnic groups. The study analyzes sociocultural factors that shape the regional image and influence the perception of the Chernivtsi region among residents and visitors.

Based on methods such as perception surveys and content analysis of media publications covering cultural events, including the “Bukovynian Malanka,” “Hike to the Polonyna,” “Zakharetskyi Harchyk,” “Medieval Khotyn” festivals, and others, the main centers of ethnocultural activity were identified. It was demonstrated that cultural events act as markers of regional space and as factors in shaping a positive image of the region.

The study concludes that supporting the ethnocultural activity of the population is an important direction of regional policy aimed at preserving multiethnic identity, enhancing tourist attractiveness, and strengthening the economic capacity of local communities.

The research emphasizes methodological innovation associated with the application of the perception-geographical approach to the analysis of ethnocultural resources, allowing the integration of quantitative and qualitative data on territorial perceptions by residents and tourists. The use of multidisciplinary methods, such as media content analysis and sociological surveys, provides a deeper understanding of the mechanisms shaping cultural identity and regional reputation.

Particular attention is paid to the socio-economic effects of activating ethnocultural life, including increasing tourist attractiveness, developing local communities, and strengthening social cohesion. The study demonstrates the interconnection between cultural practices and the economic potential of the region, which is crucial for the development of sustainable development strategies.

The scientific contribution of the article lies in the systematization and mapping of the ethnocultural resources of the Chernivtsi region, the identification of their role in shaping the regional image, and the development of recommendations for integrating cultural potential into regional policy. The research provides practical tools for evaluating the effectiveness of cultural initiatives and lays the foundation for further scientific studies in the field of socio-cultural geography.
