Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the formation of the demographic potential of the Chernivtsi region on the eve of a full-scale invasion by the aggressor country. The objective of the study was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of demographic development in the settlements of the newly created administrative districts, taking into account the natural, economic, and ethnic differences of the territory. It is evident that one of the primary tasks of post-war Ukrainian geographical science will be to develop strategic plans for the development of regions, taking into account their socio-geographical characteristics. The study incorporated ten indicators to characterise the demographic development of territories as factors in the formation of their demographic potential. These include the characteristics of the composition and distribution of the population, as this is what is currently observed, as well as demographic processes as a derivative of the prevailing socio-economic situation.

The results obtained demonstrated the formation of a demographically promising core around the regional centre. The zone of influence of the city of Chernivtsi is home to communities that are proximate to the state border and exhibit a high degree of ethno-contact. It is evident that the region will continue to demonstrate a high level of demographic potential. It is anticipated that communities in the Dniester district, in conjunction with those located in the more remote regions of the Chernivtsi and Vyzhnytsia administrative districts, will continue to be characterised by negative trends.
