The paper presents the results of the analysis of the soil cover of the Chivchyn Mountains (Ukrainian Carpathians). It was found that the predominant types of soils are medium and heavy loams, whereas sandy loam and light clay occur less frequently. An increase in the clay fraction in the valleys of perennial and intermittent streams, lower soil pH values on mountain tops, with the exception of places where limestone reaches the ground surface, were found. The predominance of the sand fraction in the soils of the Chivchyn mountains can lead to a higher risk of landslidesand other erosion processes as a result of heavy precipitation, especially on steep slopes following deforestation. In general, the Chyvchyn Mountains region, as well as the Ukrainian Carpathians, is characterized by acidic brown soil formation with the development of soils on eluvial-deluvial deposits
